Roots & WIngs
Last week we traveled to Missouri for an ordination service and while we were there we visited the Assemblies of God Headquarters and toured the Flowers Pentecostal Heritage Center. My grandfather Rev. Donald B Smith was in the AG for over 50 yrs and pioneered and church planted in the South Florida District and pastored churches in NC & SC. I delivered the two life stories of my grandparents to put in their center. When we got there we toured the center - it is on a floor in the Headquarters bldg. Boy was I amazed - it was like stepping back into all I had been raised in my life. It is truly a place that has come together to document the Pentecostal movement for our generation. I am going to post pics soon - there is even a section for David Wilkerson and the role he played in shaping what we know now as history in this movement. We got to the end and there is a place that is set up like an old church with pews and my daughter was truly amazed - it had the board on the wall with the attendance and what came last Sunday and what they were wanting. The board said that they were wanting 9315 or so and Last Sunday they had 6 - that intrigued her that they were wanting that many. I told her that was what vision is all about - working with what you have but wanting to reach and touch more. May we never lose that focus in what we do for the Lord. It truly was an amazing and interesting journey through the center but what touched me the most is to know we are part of something and a movement that has such a rich history and it is something that needs to be passed down to our children and grandchildren - it is not just a story but it is about going out and "winning the lost at any cost" and giving our lives for a cause that is greater than ourselves so that others may know about Jesus and his life changing power that he gives to live for him and do for him. Pentecostal church as we know it has roots but we are the wings that will carry it to the next generation. May it not be history but a real everyday experience that we live and touch the lives we know. It is life changing!
